How to Configure MailTips in Exchange Server 2010

In previous editions of Exchange Servers, when users send mail to any or multiple users, and recipient is unreachable or out of office, the sender then receive notification of that message which generate NDRs of Out of office assistant notification. MailTips provides informative messages while sender is composing a message. If a problem is detected, MailTips notify users prior to sending the message which significantly reduces NDRs and system messages. With the help of MailTips information, sender can adjust his/her message.

Note:-

We cannot use the EMC to enable or disable MailTips. By default, MailTips are enabled.

How to Enable MailTips

Set-OrganizationConfig -MailTipsAllTipsEnabled $true

How to Disable MailTips

Set-OrganizationConfig -MailTipsAllTipsEnabled $false

How to configure Large Audience Size

The Default large audience size is 25. When sender addresses messages to more than the large audience size, they are shown Large Audience Size MailTips.

Set-OrganizationConfig -MailTipsLargeAudienceThreshold 50

How to configure External Recipients MailTips

By default, External Recipients MailTips is disabled and we cannot use EMC to configure it. This feature notifies senders that the message will leave your organization if you specify external recipients.

Set-OrganizationConfig -MailTipsExternalRecipientsTipsEnabled $true

6. Click Senders in the following list under Reject messages from pane.

7. Click on Add to add the Garrett Young user.

Configure MailTips in the Microsoft Outlook

Next step is to configure MailTips in Garrett Young Outlook.

1. Open Garrett Young Office Outlook.

2. Click on File and then Options.

3. Click on Mail on the left-side.

4. Scroll-down to MailTips in the right-pane and click on MailTips Options...

5. In the MailTips bar display options, click on Display at all times option and click Ok.

6. Now MailTIps is configured on the Outlook to display more information.

7. To verify if MailTips is working or not, create a new message, type mprask and press Ctrl+K. You will get a message showing:-

You don't have permission to sent to Mike Prask

In this exercise, we will restrict Garrett Young from sending mails to Mike Prask and Garrett Young will receive an error while sending mail to Mike Prask that you are not authorized to send mails to Mike Prask.

How to Configure Message Delivery Restrictions for Restricting Messages

In this part, we will restrict Garrett Young user from sending mails to Mike Prask.

1. Open the Exchange Management Console.

2. Expand Recipient Configuration and click on Mailbox.

3. In the detail pane, click on Mike Prask mailbox and open its Properties.

4. Click on the Mail Flow Settings tab.

5. Select Message Delivery Settings and click on Properties.
