Calendar Sharing in Exchange Server 2010 SP1

Calendar sharing in Exchange Server 2010 SP1 has come up with new functionality not available in the previous versions. Calendar sharing in Exchange Server 2010 has introduced new features by making it simple for end-users, thereby empowering administrators with full control.

Following are the new features in Exchange Server 2010 SP1:-

1. Publishing calendars with anonymous viewers.

2. Share calendar's URL

3. Calendar URL can be used with any iCalendar compliant software

4. Policies can en enforced to restrict Calendar sharing usage

By default, no user's calendars are shared. Perform below steps to use Calendar Sharing feature in Exchange Server 2010 SP1:-

1. Set an External URL address on Client Access Server

2. Enable Calendar Publishing on the OWA Virtual Directory, and

3. Apply Calendar Sharing policy

We can find Calendar Publishing directory beneath the "owa" virtual directory, i.e. /owa/calendar. By default, anonymous and http access is enabled on this directory. If it is not enabled, then we can enable it by running the below command:-

Set-OWAVirtualDirectory "owa (Default Web Site)" “CalendarPublishingEnabled:$true

By default, Exchange Server 2010 creates one Default Sharing Policy, as shown below. You can open its properties to make any changes.

On the General tab, you can click on add or edit to specify the domain where this policy will be applied. Use * to apply this policy on all domains.

  

By clicking on the Mailbox tab, you can add mailboxes where this policy will apply to.
