Message Classifications in Exchange Server 2010

As we know, Exchange Server is used as a communication medium in all organization, but there are other challenges associated with this, like information leakage. Exchange Server 2007/2010 provides administrators a feature called, Message Classification which helps organization to comply with their e-mail policies. We can apply different transport rules to protect confidential messages to be sent to external recipients and so on.
There are 3 different types of message classifications, which are enabled by default in Exchange Server 2010:-
· Attachment Removed informs recipients when attachments have been removed.
· Originator Requested Alternate Recipient Mail notifies recipients that the message has been redirected from delivery to the original addressed recipient.
· Partner Mail notifies recipients that the message was encrypted and delivered through a secure connector.
By default, these message classifications are only for informational use, and not associated with any transport rule. However, we can create different transport rules according to our requirements and link them with message classification. For example, we can create a transport rule to check all incoming messages for a specific message classification, like Confidential and redirect them to any specific recipient, or reject messages to external recipients with message classification as Restricted.
We can use below Cmdlets to manage message classifications in Exchange Server 2010:-
· Get-MessageClassification
· New-MessageClassification
· Remove-MessageClassification
· Set-MessageClassification
Note: - We can't use Exchange Management Console to manage massage classification.
